Das Ziel ist die Optimierung der Prozesse oder Prozessabläufe und deren Stabilisierung. Der klassische Approach ist dabei die sequenzielle Untersuchung der verschiedenen Einflussvariablen auf die zu optimierenden Zielgrössen. Diese sogenannte one-variable-at-a-time hat gewaltige Nachteile und ist nicht selten ungeeignet. Mit DoE ist es möglich mehrere Einflussvariablen gleichzeitig zu analysieren und somit wesentlich geringerem Zeit- und Ressourcenaufwand zu den gewünschten Resultaten zu gelangen. Kaum eine andere Methode ist so universell in allen Ingenieur-Disziplinen einsetzbar wie DoE. Die Methode ist heute weit verbreitet und findet breit gefächerte Anwendung in sämtlichen Branchen. Die ersten beiden Kapitel dieses Buches beschäftigen sich mit den Grundlagen. Dabei beschränkt sich der Umfang auf die Statistik, welche für das Verständnis von DoE notwendig erscheint. Bei entsprechenden Vorkenntnissen ist es natürlich möglich diese Kapitel zu übergehen und mit Kapitel 3, der Statistischen Versuchsplanung zu beginnen. This book deals with two areas, for which there is rarely a search for a common denominator: the human nervous system and the problems of civilisation. What are the performance features of the nervous system? How do these act together? Great cultural achievements are at any moment undermined by disaster. Analysis of this dark side of civilisation is followed by the search for solutions. The idea of a largely peaceful, fair and systematic (sustainable) management of global cultural society appears to be a utopia considering the geopolitical realities. Eckhard Schindler contrasts this resigned perception with practical problem-solving approaches. The principles of the system behind the nervous system here act as a starting point. Mit beiden Themengebieten - den Neurowissenschaften und den Dilemmata der Zivilisation - setzt er sich aufgrund eines gewissen Unbehagens auseinander. Bei den Neurowissenschaften geht es eher um ein der Neugier geschuldetes Unbehagen. Wichtige Systeme - wie das Nervensystem oder das System Mensch - nicht zu verstehen ist aus ingenieurtechnischer Sicht im Wesentlichen untragbar. Das Unbehagen bezüglich der Zivilisationsprobleme sitzt hingegen sehr tief. Wo soll man die Motivation für die akkurate Ausführung technischer Projekte hernehmen, wenn zur gleichen Zeit das Projekt der Entwicklung der globalen Kulturgesellschaft aus dem Ruder läuft?

Erman Tekkaya is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Materials Processing Technology of Elsevier for 7 years. Homberg is a professor at the University of Paderborn since 2007 and managed the Chair of Forming and Machining Technology (LUF) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. There he is chairman of the Commission Strategy and Resources and member of the Committee for Planning and Finance at the University of Paderborn. He studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund. After his completion of studies, he worked as a research co-worker at the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction (IUL) in the field of sheet metal forming. In this field, he graduated with honors in the year 2000. Subsequently, he worked as a senior engineer at the IUL and was mainly responsible for the coordination of research. Alexander Brosius In July 2012 Alexander Brosius became a full Professor as head of the Chair of Forming and Machining Processes (FF) at the Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden).
